Welcoming Felix Yepa
Sovereign Energy is proud to welcome Felix Yepa (Pueblo of Jemez) as our new Tribal Energy Liaison—a role that will deepen our capacity to serve Tribal Nations through culturally grounded renewable energy education, community-led energy planning, and collaborative climate solutions.
Felix brings to this position a rare combination of hands-on solar installation experience, commercial and industrial project development, and Tribal community engagement. His background reflects exactly what Sovereign Energy stands for: advancing clean energy futures that are Indigenous-led, equity-driven, and built on a foundation of self-determination and sovereignty.
In his previous role at Energy Outreach Colorado, Felix coordinated 15 MW of community solar gardens, making clean energy more affordable and accessible for low-income families across the state. He worked across stakeholder lines to enroll subscribers, partner with utilities, and lead inclusive outreach efforts. Before that, as a commercial solar Project Developer, Felix coordinated with cross-functional engineering, legal, procurement, and finance teams to move solar projects from vision to reality.
Felix’s journey in clean energy began with direct service through GRID Alternatives’ Tribal Program, where he helped install solar systems in Tribal communities and led workforce development efforts for Native youth and aspiring energy professionals. His technical fluency is matched by a clear commitment to equity and access in the clean energy transition.
A Role Centered on Community, Culture, and Capacity
As Tribal Energy Liaison, Felix will help guide and implement Sovereign Energy’s growing portfolio of educational initiatives across the Southwest. He will:
Support the development of Tribal-centered energy education materials and programs
Lead hands-on workshops and site visits to increase familiarity with renewable energy technologies
Collaborate with Tribal leaders to identify community energy priorities and tailor solutions accordingly
Translate complex energy and climate policies into accessible information for Indigenous audiences
Advance workforce development efforts through Tribal partnerships and youth engagement
And help guide community-driven planning processes for renewable energy projects.
A Path Forward Rooted in Tribal Sovereignty
At Sovereign Energy, we believe the energy transition must be shaped by the communities most impacted by extraction and environmental injustice. Felix’s leadership will help us scale this work across New Mexico and the Southwest, where Tribal Nations are charting pathways toward energy sovereignty.
We’re thrilled to have Felix join our team and look forward to what’s ahead.
